Party time: VE Day coincided with Mary Lewis’ 20th birthday. Mary (second right) from Leeds, was on her way to the pictures when she was invited along. Corporal Harold King (third right) from Lower Bullingham was on leave from RAF Pershore and heading across High Town when he was also approached by a local pub landlord: ‘He wanted an airman to complete his party. “There will be a drink in it for you,” he promised.’ The group helped out at a children’s party in Berrington Street. Afterwards the drinks were on the house. ‘We served teas and probably had a couple of ciders,’ said Mary.
