A black and white photograph of Lieutenant-General Hopton (1837-1912).He is bareheaded, in dress uniform wearing the star, ribbon, and badge of a military Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath and medals from the Crimean War, Indian Mutiny and the South African medal and clasp for service in the Kaffir and Zulu wars. He is perched on an exterior window sill with a domestic interior behind. The photograph was presumably taken when he was Colonel of the Fourth Battalion of the Militia [1897-1908]. |
