Description | Colour photograph of an aerial view of the 2 road bridges crossing the river Wye in Hereford, c1976. The Bishops' Meadow is in the top of the picture with the tennis courts and crazy golf. The swimming baths is in the process of being built at the bottom of St Martins Street. The 2 roads link at Belmont roundabout which gives the drivers the option of continuing on the A49 to Ross/Gloucester or travelling to Abergavenny on the A465. At the bottom of the picture is the Greyfriars area of the city, the building closed to the bridge on that side is Greyfriars Hotel, which has since been demolished. In 2016 an apartment block began to be built right next to the bridge on that land, including garden area, it is higher than the bridge. The ground level of this block is for parking, as there is always a risk of flooding. |
