Title Richard Lane Freer, 1858
Description Black and white photograph of The Venerable Richard Lane Freer, Archdeacon of Hereford. He was ordained in 1829 and became vicar at Bishopstone cum Yazor in 1839. Then in 1847 transferring to Prebendary of Hereford, he married the following year. Bishop Hampton appointed him Archdeacon in 1852. He was a member of the Diocesan Church Building Society and organised much church rebuilding including that at Bishopstone and Yazor. He was appointed the Deputy-Provincial Grand Master of Hereford Freemasons. He journeyed to America and his memoir of this was published in 1876 posthumously. His memorial is a large three-light window by Hardman, 1864, in the north wall of Hereford Cathedral costing £1,316. It is thought to be the best example of Victorian glass in the building.
