Eastnor Castle showing the side elevation with a lady standing on the battlements with a girl seated on the battlements. Located in Eastnor, a village east of Ledbury. Eastnor Castle was built between 1812 and 1820 for John Cocks, First Earl Somers. The architect was Robert Smirke, who later became the main architect of the British Museum. It is a mock castle, designed to look like a medieval castle guarding the Welsh border. Note: there are printing instructions on a wrapper dated 6th January 1954 mentioning 'neg. - at castle'. |
