C.S.M. EDGAR BRACE ,
Lieutenant - Colonel Percy Archer Clive , M.P. for the Ross Division of Herefordshire , has been killed , says Tuesday night's " Evening Standard . "
Lieutenant - Colonel Clive , who was 45 years of age , entered the army in 1891 and served in West Africa in 1898 , being promoted cap- tain the following year . He also served in the South African campaign .
In 1900 he was elected M.P. for Ross Divi- sion of Herefordshire without opposition , but at the 1906 election he was defeated by Colonel Alan Gardner , a Liberal , by a majority of 312 . In 1908 , on the death of Colonel Gardner , Lieutenant - Colonel Clive won back the seat for the Liberal Unionists by a 1,019 majority , and he has retained the seat ever since .
He was Parliamentary private secretary to Mr. Austen Chamberlain when he was Chan- cellor of the Exchequer .
During the present war he had been mentioned in despatches , awarded the Legion of Honour , and had been twice wounded .
LIEUT . W. P. CLOWES KILLED .
It is with very keen regret that we have to announce that Lieutenant W. P. Clowes , son of Colonel P. L. Clowes , C.B. , and Mrs. Clowes , M.B.E. , of Burton Court , was killed in action on March 30th , in France . The sad news created a deep impression in Leominster and district and the greatest sympathy has been evinced with the bereaved parents who are held in high esteem throughout the county .
