WASTE OF POTATOES .
At Thorne , South Yorkshire , on Monday , Joseph Sunderland , a farmer , was fined £ 5 for a breach of the Wastage of Food Order . He allowed one acre and three perches of 1917 crop of potatoes to remain in the field . Weeds grew over them , and a large portion of the crop was ruined . Defen dant said they were not worth bothering about .
BOYS ' THEFT OF SILVER TEAPOTS . Sixteen silver teapots stood in a row in front of the barristers ' seats at the Middlesex Sessions on Saturday . They were the proceeds of a robbery of

CONSERVATION OF FOOD . Representatives of the Food Production Depart- ment gave demonstrations in fruit and vegetable preservation to nearly 14,000 people at the Brighton Exhibition and 7.500 people at the Bournemouth Exhibition . One hundred and seven demonstrations in bottling , canning , and drying fruit and vegetables were given last week . 6,373,860 glass jars for fruit preservation have been ordered through the retail trade under the Food Production Department's conservation scheme .
