We regret to announce the death of Agnes Lady Bateman , which took place on Wedney- day , March 13th , at Brome Hall , Eye , Suffolk , in her 87th year . The late Lady Bateman was a daughter of of an improved grade of milk or cheapness has been General Sir Edward Kerrison , Bart . , K.C.B. , made a condition of approval to this monopoly by any Government Department concerned , if he will appoint a committee , representative of consumers , producers , the Agricultural Organisation Society , the Ministry of Food , and the Board of Agriculture , controlled ? The to inquire into the whole matter and report whether it is in the public interest that such a monopoly should be permitted ; and , if so , under what conus tions of standard and prices of the essential food Mr. Clynes : I have been asked to reply . Joint Food Committee of the Ministry of Food and the Board of Agriculture on the production and distribution of milk have already given considerable attention to this matter , and , at Lord Rhondda's request , they are now appointing a sub - committee , on which outside representatives of consumers and producers will be added , for the purpose of settling the immediate steps necessary for the control of the collection , utilisation , and distribution of milk sold . wholesale . Mr. Wright May I ask the Leader of the House whether he will now take steps to prevent any fur- ther firms being included in the combine until the committee have reported ? The Chancellor of the Exchequer ( Mr. Bonar Law ) : This is obviously a question dealing directly with the food supply , and more suitable for the Fooc Controller . I have not looked into it myself , but I will do so . Mr. Wright May I ask the same question of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food ? Mr. Clynes : I think my hon . friend may be assurred that immediate action will be taken , as this answer indicates , and that the matter may be safely left in the hands of the committee now being appointed . and succeeded to the Suffolk estate on the death of her elder brother , Sir Edward Kerri- son , M.P. The memory of her life will remain an abiding influence with those who had the privilege of her friendship ... Her home was the centre from which radiated kindly thought and good works finding expression in abounding benefi- cence to those around her . FUNERAL SERVICE AT EYE . Prior to the removal of the remains of the late Dowager Lady Bateman for interment in the family vault at Shobdon Court , near Leo- minster , Herefordshire , a funeral service was held at the Parish Church , Eye , Suffolk , on Monday . The Lord Bishop of the Diocese and the robed clergy , with surpliced choir , awaited the arrival of the body at the west door of the church , the Vicar . ( the Rev. J. Polycarp Oakey ) acting as cross - bearer . The opening sentences of the service were said by the Rev. W. N. Long ( Brome ) , and as the procession moved up the aisle the organist played to Croft's setting . Psalm XC was sung , and the lesson was read by the Rev. W. A. Duval , followed by the hymn , " There is a land of pure delight . " The Bishop then delivered a short address . Taking his text from 11. Kings , iv . , 13 , " And she answered , dwell among ' I mine own people , ' he brought this story in the Book of Kings , of a great countrywoman who lived a life of quiet duty and earnest religious faith , to a fresh application when he came to speak of her of whom not her own kinsfolk and family , but the people of that district and neighbourhood , were united in mourning at that time . She whose loss they deplored lived long beyond the common lot of humanity , and that life was lived among her own people in that neighbourhood , where her family and her- self had done so much for the welfare of all around them . The people knew her , even she knew them , and as years went by they were bound together by strong association and sincere affection . He spoke that morning as one who had only the advantage of knowing Lady Bateman for a short time , but no one , 28 the gracious kindliness of her disposition , her constant thought for others . 1. Census taken at request of War Office through earnest religious faith , her sense of duty , and to carry out the aim she had set before her of living , not unto herself , but unto others , and more especially unto Him who died for her . Even when the end drew near she was think- ing only of her children , their welfare and happiness . He could not help feeling that God in his great mercy had taken her to Him- into that perfect peace which they all so longed The Nunc Dimittis was sung kneeling to Fos- ter's setting as the cortege left the church , the committal sentences being pronounced by Mr. The bier was wheeled by two of the oldest tenants of the estate , Mr. James Jenkins , Lady court ( 36 years ) and Mr. W.
