A PRISONER OF WAR IN GERMANY .
We are pleased to hear that Mrs. Matthews , 7 , Corn Square , Leominster , has received a post card from her son , Pte . S. Matthews , who was recently reported missing , stating that he is a prisoner and is well cared for . The message comes from the Prisoners ' of war Camp , Hammelburg , Bavaria , and is as fol- lows : 7/5/17 . Dear Mother , Just a fine to let you know I am here a prisoner of war and I am getting on very well and hope to be all right again soon . You may write to
me as often as you like but as regards parcels some have to be sent through the Regimental Committee , the Depot of which is at Ports- month . Please don't worry about me as I am all right and well cared for . "
LEYSTERS MAN'S DEATH .

of lte . Arthur Henry Mapp , son of Mrs. S. A.
Mapp , of Lane End , Leysters , near Tenbury .
He went to France on the 20th June , 1916 , and
was reported missing on July 19th . Previous to joining the l'orces he was employed by Mr. His
R. Banks , of the Perry Farm , Kyre . mother heard from the Army Council on 29th May last that they had heard no further tid- ings about him and that his death took place on July 19th , 1916. The deceased soldier was
26 years of age and single . Much sympathy is expressed with his mother and family . "
AYMESTRY MAN'S DEATH .
Mrs. Beaumont , of Aymestrey , has received at letter in reference to the death of her son , who was with the K.S.I.I. in France , from 2nd - Lieut . F. S. Corke who states that he died from diphtheria , adding : " He was apparently in excellent health until two days before his death when he complained of feeling unwell and was transferred to the Field Ambulance .. We were infornied of his death but were un- fortunately too busy to write to you . On be-
half of the officers and men of his company 1 tender our sincere sympathy in your sad bereavement . He was one of the best and hardest working men in the Company and was well liked by his comrades , by whom his loss is sadly felt . "
LUDLOW MAN HONOURED . Ludlow has reason to be proud of the hon- our that has been conferred upon Mr. H. P. Maybury , who was brought up in Ludlow . He became County Surveyor of Kent , and was afterwards appointed Chief Engineer to the Road Board . In December , 1916 , he was ap- pointed to the command of the Road Making Brigade in France with the temporary rank of Brigadier - General . His residence is at Barns- field , Horns Cross , Stone , and he has been re- Sently commended by Sir Douglas Haig for distinguished war service and was mentioned in the Honours List and the King has con- ferred upon him the honour of the Companion of the Bath . Brigadier - General Maybury is a brother - in - law to Alderman E. Sheldon , of Ludlow .
