Chattey , managing director of Suburban Caterers , Ltd. , resuited on Wednesday in the ment being given for the defendant . The al- leged libel was contained in a letter written by defendant , in which he said there had been a shrinkage of trade and profits during the plaintiff's management of defendant's houses , that he was fond of tossing with customers , and , further , that the defendant had received complaints with regard to the plaintiff's con- duct with his barmaids . The Judge ruled that the letter was written on a privileged occasion . The jury found that there was a libel , that it was true , and that there was malice . GERMAN MISGIVINGS . cor- Amsterdam , Wednesday . - The military respondent of the Frankfurter Zeitung " re . calls how , in contrast to many others , he re- cently described the military developments in . Mesopotamia as a serious move by the British . against Bagdad . Referring to the fall of Kut- el - Amara , says that these developments have now resulted in a change in the strategi- cal situation , and expresses the hope that the Turks will gain a success which will enable . them to restore the strategical position . he 20 SHEEP KILLED BY . DOGS . One of the worst cases of sheep - worrying that has happened in Surrey for years took place on Southerns Farm , Chipstead , on Satur- day night or Sunday morning . Of 100 Kent yearlings put out to graze , more than 20 were found dead , with their heads and faces terribly gnawed , while 20 others were so badly injured that they had to be slaughtered . It is believed that three or more dogs must have attacked the sheep . A BRAVE LITTLE MOTHER . Left alone in the house , a 13 - year - old girl showed remarkable presence of nfind when . her baby brother fell into a bath of hot water . It was stated at the inquest on the child , Roy Henry Davis , aged 3 , at Lewisham , on Tues- day , that the girl's father was dead and that her mother was in hospital . When the acci- dent occurred she carried the child to the Sydenham Home for Sick Children , where he died the next morning in her presence . None of the neighbours seemed to be able to do anything , and the coroner praised the girl's pluck and resource . " ROMANCE OF A SPOON . Six Charles I. Apostle spoons realised £ 155 at Christie's on Tuesday . Another set of five of the same period were sold for £ 110 , while prices of Apostle spoons of the reigns of Elizabeth , James I. , and Charles I. ranged from £ 21 to £ 34 each . The highest - priced . spoon was found in the thatched roof of a barn in the parish of Toddiswell , South Devon , about 100 years ago . Holmes , g , with his legal . wife . Thomas Neville , a private in the Royal Defence Corps ( so it was related against him at the Old Bailey on Tuesday ) bigamously married Ethel Hudson , at a time when he was He brought Hudson home and introduced her to his wife as his sister . When one of the women com- . plained , Neville said , " Let's take a bigger . house and the three of us will live together . " He was sent to prison for a year . AMERICA PREPARING TO ARM HER .
