| Description | Black and white photograph of Sidney Box. Sidney Box was a campaigner for agricultural workers' welfare and was a member of the National Union of Agricultural Workers. He proposed strike action in 1914 for a minimum wage of 20 shillings for a 60 hour week, as Herefordshire wages were 3 shillings a week well below the average across the country. Sidney stood as a Labour MP for Hereford in 1923 but came last. There is a street named after him. |
