The occasion is a visit by the General Officer Commanding West Midlands District to 'D' Company of the Light Infantry and Mercian Volunteers at the TAVR (Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve) Centre in Alton Road. From left to right the officers and NCO are named as: Major General R. W. T. Britton M.C. (General Officer Commanding West Midlands District) Major C. Hall (Company Commander) Colour-Sergeant J. Darbyshire (permanent staff instructor) Lt. Colonel Tony Griffiths (Battalion Commander) A couple of weeks later (December 5, front page) an article headed "Leaving Mercia" announced the Ross Company were to leave the Light Infantry and Mercian Volunteers and become part of 6th Battalion The Light Infantry Volunteers. |
