Description |
Black and white photograph showing a man who is holding on to a tethered cow in one hand whilst holding up a trophy by one of the handles with his other hand. Another man, wearing a chain of office, is on the right holding the other handle of the trophy. There is a third man on the left standing behind the cow. The cow has a rosette placed in the middle of her forehead. The article is headed "BROTHERS SHOW CHAMPION" The two men with the cow are brothers, David and John Sevenoaks who are receiving the "Ross Traders Cup" from the president of the Ross Chamber of Commmerce, Mr. D. F. Nelson. The breed of cow is a Charolais heifer and it was judged the champion beast at the Ross Fatstock Show held in the Cattle Market. The spot in the market from which this photograph was taken faced onto Cawdor Arch Road. The row of terraced houses in the backgronud have since been pulled down as part of the redevelopment of The Nursery. However, on the extreme left can be seen the corner of 41, The Nursery which is still standing today. An interesting feature is the converted gas street lamp. The light bulb looks as if it is on. |
