---|---|
Description |
Black and white photograph showing a man in a uniform. He is posing in front of what could be a fire tender with his right foot up on a step and right hand holding on to a handle. On the jacket of his uniform is a double row of medal ribbon bars. The article is headed "RETIRING FIREMAN'S LONG RECORD OF PUBLIC SERVICE". The man is Sub/Officer Aubrey V. Lerigo on the occasion of his retirement from the Fire Service. The article gives details of his career including his Army service during the Second World War. It also mentions that he joined the St John Ambulance cadets in 1934. He is therefore, probably in the photograph taken outside their station in Edde Cross Street when it opened in 1939 (Ross Gazette, March 16, 1939). He would have been aged 18 at the time. |
