Joy on the streets

On the day after VE Day, the whole of Hereford was out on the streets again, this time to celebrate in a time honoured British way with tea, sandwiches, cakes and lemon squash. Tony Williams, the indefatigable photographer for the Hereford Citizen and Bulletin, roamed the city to commit the joyful gatherings to memory. This is but a sample of a substantial gallery, which shows a community coming together to mark an event that would live forever.

We are grateful to Derek Foxton for letting us use his digitised copies of these historic images.
