Arthur Estwick Challenger
Lance Corporal Arthur Estwick Challenger (2629), 1/5 Gloucestershire Regiment
Born in Totterdown, Bristol – enlisted in ‘C’ Company 1/5th (Territorial) Battalion Gloucestershire regiment in August 1914 and was drafted to France on 19th March 1915. He died of wounds in a hospital in Rouen. His Battalion had been heavily engaged in the capture of Ovillers, during the battle of Bazentin between 14th and 17th July 1916 and it is likely he received the wounds, from which he later died, during these engagements. He is buried in St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, Plot A, Row 13, Grave 46.
