Description:
A black and white photograph of a man in an 8h.p. "Mobile" car outside Hereford Cathedral. The Birmingham based Mobile Motor and Engineering company made cars from c.1904 until it was wound up in 1907. In the background can be seen masons' sheds and scaffolding on the cathedral indicating the reconstruction of the West End (1902-08).

A black and white photograph of Henri Salmet, early french aviator, seated in a car outside The Firs, St Margarets Road, Hereford which was the private house of Edmund Wallis, Mayor of Hereford at the time. The chauffeur is standing to one side, there is a lady at the wheel and another seated in the back seat while the Mayor, Edmund Wallis and another lady are standing on the right. Description:
A black and white photograph of a monoplane in front of a packed grandstand at Hereford Racecourse. This was taken on the occasion when the pioneer aviator, Henri Salmet, flew in his Bleriot monoplane to Hereford on a Daily Mail demonstration flight."Although Salmet made a flight at Ross in the morning and went on to Hereford, he was unable to fly on to Worcester in the evening" (Source Flight Magazine July 27th 1912). This was the first aeroplane to be seen in Hereford according to Mr Percy Pritchard (Source: MotorSport 1981).

Mr Salmet flew into Hereford Saturday 20th July 1912 and departed Monday 22nd July 1912. Prior to his visit to Hereford, he visited Ross-on-Wye.
