A black and white photograph of the steps and balustrade of Shobdon Court.This is the setting for a large group of people including soldiers and children. People in the photograph seem to be placed according to a definite hierarchy, with ladies on the terrace, children at the front, soldiers to the left and other people to the right. The occasion is most probably the "At Home" held in June 1905 by Lord and Lady Bateman after their wedding and homecoming.
