The petition had been signed by several thousand rate payers. The five men making up the deputation from the council are Mr. Sheldon, Mr. Makin, Mr. Harris, Mr. Hardinge, and Mr. Manning.

The man in the middle is the president of Garlock Incorporated, Mr. B. H. Cook. Garlock Incorporated were the parent company of Woodville Rubber Company.

The accompanying article is headed "COMMISSIONED IN THE WRNS" The servicewoman is Elizabeth Morris who was commissioned to the rank of Probationary Third Officer in the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS). Her connection with the Ross area is that she previously lived at Lea.

The occasion is the enrolling ceremony of the newly formed 2nd Ross Brownie Pack. From Left to right, the adults are named as: Mrs. Vera Lewis (Tawny Owl) Mrs. M. Reeve-Tucker (Ross Town Commissioner) Mrs. Pat Davies (Brown Owl) The brownies are not named.

The article is headed "SCHOOL THAT STARTED IN STABLE LOFT TO HAVE £72,000 BUILDING". The children and adults are the pupils and teachers of St. Weonards School. At the time, there were 123 pupils attending the school, so only a portion of them are shown here. The picture was taken at the end of term before it closed for good. When the new school year started in September the pupils would go to a newly built replacement located across the road. The headmaster is named as Mr. R. M. Humphreys but he his not identified in the photograph. The article also gives a detailed account of the history of the school. The building was subsequently converted into dwellings.

From left to right the three ladies are named as Jane Francis, Catriona Morison and Diane Gaudion. They had been selected to take part in the final of the Miss Ross competition to held at the Ross Horticultural Society Show on the August Bank Holiday. The result of the competition was published on the front page of the August 29 edition.

The building is a newly built school in the village of St. Weonards. The old school's accommodation had become inadequate to cope with the increasing pupil numbers. Being sited on a gradient meant it could not be extended and they had had to resort to taking some lessons in the village hall. The new school opened to pupils in September 1974.

The certificates were presented by the headmaster of the school, Mr. Jack Tempest, who is the tall gentlemen standing at the back. The two ladies with him are the dancing teacher, Mrs. Maria Warwick, and the pianist, Miss Eva Cole.
