The man in the middle is the president of Garlock Incorporated, Mr. B. H. Cook. Garlock Incorporated were the parent company of Woodville Rubber Company.

    Description: Black and white photograph showing a group of children standing and kneeling down in front of an old brick building. There are also three adults present. The article is headed "SCHOOL THAT STARTED IN STABLE LOFT TO HAVE £72,000 BUILDING". The children and adults are the pupils and teachers of St. Weonards School. At the time, there were 123 pupils attending the school, so only a portion of them are shown here. The picture was taken at the end of term before it closed for good. When the new school year started in September the pupils would go to a newly built replacement located across the road. The headmaster is named as Mr. R. M. Humphreys but he his not identified in the photograph. The article also gives a detailed account of the history of the school. The building was subsequently converted into dwellings.

They had been selected to take part in the final of the Miss Ross competition to held at the Ross Horticultural Society Show on the August Bank Holiday. The result of the competition was published on the front page of the August 29 edition.

There are tools, buckets and planks of wood scattered around suggesting building work is still in progress. The article is headed "SCHOOL THAT STARTED IN STABLE LOFT TO HAVE £72,000 BUILDING". The building is a newly built school in the village of St. Weonards. The old school's accommodation had become inadequate to cope with the increasing pupil numbers. Being sited on a gradient meant it could not be extended and they had had to resort to taking some lessons in the village hall. The new school opened to pupils in September 1974.
