    Description: A black and white photograph of 6 soldiers, two wear ornate helmets and one of these is holding a Martini-Henry rifle. The others are in shakos with the bugle badge of the Rifle Volunteers. The woman in the centre is dressed in fashions of the 1880s, and there are bell tents in background. The plate is cracked.

    Description: A black and white photograph of nine soldiers and an officer wearing slouch hats outside the Drill Hall, Friars Street, Hereford, which has since been demolished. The officer is wearing a darker hat, four pocket tunic with pleated breast pockets and a black arm band, a stand and fall collar and a leather rifle belt. The others are in tunics with upright collars, two pockets below the waist, white belts, trousers, puttees and Ammo boots with hobnails. There is a bugler in the front row and on the right a soldier has a bayonet hanging from his belt. They all have swagger sticks and shoulder flashes of “1HF”.

The medal ribbon is for the Military Medal. The Battles patch on his upper arms would have been a red rectangle surmounted by a red circle indicating he was in the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Canadian Division (Source: Great War Forum). The woman is wearing a satin dress with decorative stitching and beadwork.

    Description: A black and white photograph of a soldier seated astride a chair turned the wrong way round. He is wearing a tunic with a stand up collar with a metallic shoulder title spelling 'CANADA' and collar badges bearing the Maple Leaf. On the left sleeve is a single Good Conduct chevron and on the right forearm he wears four 'Chevrons for Overseas Service' indicating four years of service. These commenced to be worn around June/July 1918.

Soldiers have insignia of Herefordshire Regiment and wear spiked helmets, The King’s colour on the left and the Regimental colour on the right are carried by subalterns. The two Colours are escorted by Senior NCOs equipped with Lee Enfield rifles, with bayonets. The one in the centre has two medals one with two bars and a trade badge suggesting he is a Regimental Signal Instructor. A small part of the plate has been cracked off in the bottom left corner. The location is the Barracks, Harold St, Hereford. This photograph is identical to G36-316-03 except that the background detail seems sharper.

    Description: A black and white photograph of the Herefordshire Regiment Colour Party about to enter the West door of Hereford Cathedral. This was the occasion of the laying up of the Colours for safe keeping by the Herefordshire Territorials. An account of this with names of those involved appeared in the Hereford Times of 22nd August 1914.
