Description:
A black and white photograph of a group of NCOs and officers. Those in the back rows are wearing side caps, cross sashes (regular soldiers) and white belts. Nearer the front are soldiers dressed in an older style of uniform with kepis and shorter tunics without belts. The kepis have chin straps, some with braid around the peak. Medals and medal ribbons are on show, also insignia for sergeants, and regimental sergeant major (in the front row) and proficiency in shooting. Several display Good Conduct chevrons on the right forearm dating this picture before 1881. Three men have Martini Henry rifles, one with a socket bayonet. Immediately behind the men is a wall clock hanging on the outside of the marquee which forms the background.
