His medals are (L to R) Egypt medal, 1882-1889, probably a long service good conduct medal, India General Services Medal, 1854-1895 or India Medal 1895-1902 and Khedives Star, 1882-1889 awarded by Egypt for service in the Egypt war and campaigns in Sudan. (Source: Victorian Wars Forum.) He was photographed in the studio against a floral backdrop.

He is wearing a Field Service Cap, undress tunic with cross belt, sword and sabretache. The sabretache is black leather with a crown and monogram. He is also wearing chain mail epaulettes so he may be an officer of the Hussars or a yeomanry regiment. See also G36-510-03.

They were photographed outside the cloisters of Hereford Cathedral.
