  • Title: Whitchurch 1924: Garden Fete, July 17 1924

    Type: Image

    Date Published: July 17, 1924 - page 3

Description: Black and white photograph showing a group of girls gathered around a Maypole. The caption is "A PRETTY FEATURE OF THE RECENT GARDEN FETE AT THE GRANGE, WHITCHURCH" The associated article was published in the previous week's edition (July 10, 1924, page 5) under the heading "GARDEN FETE FOR THE EXTENSION OF WHITCHURCH MEMORIAL HALL". The event was a garden fete held in the grounds of The Grange at Whitchurch. The article names the children taking part in the Maypole dance. However, it is unlikely that the names have been put in the order that they appear in the photograph. The adults standing at each end of the girls could be the owners of The Grange, Dr and Mrs. Bargrave Wyborn.
