Two are wearing scarlet jackets with black facings and with old style, short shakos (extreme left and second right). The number 7 denotes the 7th Battalion, based in Kington. The soldier on the left seems to be a quarter-master sergeant with four inverted chevrons on each cuff. The others are wearing frogged patrol jacket and flat square peaked forage caps and kepis.     Description: A black and white photograph of a group of 11 soldiers in front of tents. Their kepis have plates on the front surmounted by a ball. They are wearing full dress uniforms which would have been red with blue trousers. Tunics are buttoned to the neck with a stand-up collar, white belts fastened with a snake clasp and with a leather pouch. One has the insignia of a sergeant, another a corporal. They are shod in hobnail boots and are sitting on, variously, an upturned bucket and a large coffee pot. Their rifles with socket bayonets are stacked up next to them.

There are also three men in mufti, two dressed in boating blazers and two of the men have their dogs with them.

    Description: A black and white photograph of nine soldiers and an officer wearing slouch hats outside the Drill Hall, Friars Street, Hereford, which has since been demolished. The officer is wearing a darker hat, four pocket tunic with pleated breast pockets and a black arm band, a stand and fall collar and a leather rifle belt. The others are in tunics with upright collars, two pockets below the waist, white belts, trousers, puttees and Ammo boots with hobnails. There is a bugler in the front row and on the right a soldier has a bayonet hanging from his belt. They all have swagger sticks and shoulder flashes of “1HF”.
