The road leading off from its right is into High Town and then follows through to Commercial Street, Commercial Road. At the start of the tree line is the railway line and leading out of town is Aylestone Hill, the route to Worcester. The columned building on the middle far right of the picture is the Shirehall with St Peters Square and church in front. The large building above the Shirehall is Berrows House, which was where the local newspapers were printed. The large building above that is the County Hospital, with the bus station slightly to the left.

    Description: A black and white photograph of the entrance to Church Street from High Town, showing on the right side: Adams and Sons, bookseller, stationer and printers with a man standing outside and on the left side part of the window of Boots Cash Chemist. Boots is offering sheep dip powder while Adams has a window of toys including dolls, dolls' house furniture and model railway track. In other windows are numerous postcards of local views. In the premises above, stained glass window decorations are sold. Adams and Sons is only listed in Kelly's Directory of 1900.
