In 1869 Disraeli made him Bishop of Hereford and his service was one of the longest in post. He died on 24th December 1894 and was buried in the Lady Arbour at the Cathedral.

    Description: Black and white photograph of Charles Anthony. He bought the local Hereford Times newspaper in 1832 and reintroduced it as a broadsheet of 4 pages with 6 columns. The price of this newspaper was 7d with 4d of it being tax. Mr Anthony successfully campaigned on this "tax on knowledge" to be abolished. He is buried at St Bartholomews in Holmer, to the north of Hereford.

He was a Judge in Wales in 1700 and MP for Weobley from 1690-1702, when he resigned in favour of his son Robert. Under Queen Anne he was made Baron of the Exchequer and justice of the Court of Common Pleas in 1726.
