County triathlete would love to compete in Hawaii again
King to set her sights on
Ironman Championships
PROFESSIONAL triathlete
Kathryn King has targeted
this year’s Wo1ld I1 onman
Championships after de-
ciding to 1eturn as an age—
group athlete.
King took part in the
prestigious event in Kona,
Hawaii, in 2014 and gained
creditable finishes at other
events last year.
“Having reflected on last
year and thinking carefully
about the future, I have de
cided to return to racing
athlete again, predominate-
ly on the UK circuit,” said
King.
“I would love to qualify to
race at the World Champi-
onships in Kona again, but
my coach believes I have
not yet reached my peak as
an athlete, so there is more
work to do.
“The support I have re-
ceived 1 from Halo Sports
Foundation has been fan-
tastic though and I have
made full use of the facili-
ties available in the county,
sometimes swimming eight
times a week.”
King qualified for Kona
2014 after finishing second
in the 35 to 39 category at
Ironman Wales, becoming

Club member to achieve the
feat.
She was supported by
John Wood from the Not for
the Ordinary (NFTO) cy—
cling team.
“That made a huge dif~
ference because I was able
to devote more to train-
ing, while working flexible
hours,” said King.
“I consider myself very
fortunate to have had this
backing and have since
been very proud to be asso-
ciated with NF’I‘O.”
King raced as an age-group
triathlete throughout 2014,
gaining podium finishes
at Ironman Lanzarote and
the Ironman 70.3 European
Championships in Wies-
baden.
That led to her successful-
ly applying for a profession-
al licence and she has been
working with her coach Ju-
lian Nagi since last April.
Last year, King won the
half marathon at the Her-
efordshire Festival of Sport
in September before com-
ing top at the Llangorse
Middle Distance Triathlon
She also won the Rubicon
Middle Distance Triathlon.
as well as finishing second
at the Steelman Olympic
Distance Triathlon.
In Ironman events, King
finished eighth at Ironman
UK in July and 17th at Iron-
man Arizona in November.
King’s time of 10 hours
and 10 minutes in Arizona
was a personal best.
“The race went really
smoothly; I had a solid
swim, five minutes faster
than at Ironman UK, and I
really enjoyed the bike sec-
tion. I was overjoyed to fin-
ish in 10 hours 10 minutes
in the second professional
ironman and fifth ever
ironman race," said King.
“I discovered a lot about
myself as an athlete and
realised that power of the
mind is pretty amazing.
“But, due to a hamstring
injury I sustained a few
weeks before the race, I
hadn’t done anywhere
near as much training as
I’d hoped, so this is some-
thing I’m pretty excited to
explore to see how much
faster I can run the iron-
man marathon.”
OLYMPIC bronze medal-
list David Price has donat-
ed equipment to Hereford
Boxing Academy
The club’s chairman, Ian
Stevens ended up talking
to Price when he bid for
some floor matting that the
Liverpudlian was selling
on internet auction site
ebay. But, unbeknown to
Stevens, Price ended up
providing the club with
more equipment, includ-
ing heavy bags, speed balls,
a floor to ceiling ball and
battle ropes.
“Any donations to the
club are greatly received,
but they’ re even more spe-
cial coming from an
Olympian,” said Stevens.
“David chatted openly
about his career and
brought along his bronze
medal.
“He signed a pair of
gloves a long heavy bag
and customised boots. ”

club, based on Widemarsh
Common, call Ian Stevens

“They are three massive
games and will almost
define our season,” said
Purdie.
“If we pick up maximum
points against Khalsa and
Alvechurch, we will then
take some stopping, but if
we stumble, then it makes
winning the league more
difficult.
“But, Beads [manager Pete
Beadle] hasn’t even talked
about those games, right
now, everyone is focusing
on the Nirvana game.“
Purdie is from Leicester.
but admits he hasn’t heard
of Hereford’s opponents.
“My brother does know
the manager of the side
that they beat in the last
round [St Andrews]." said
Purdie.
“I’ve never heard of them.
but I know it will be a tough
game."
If Hereford win. they will
be just three reimds away
from playing at Wembley
Stadium.
“We know what the prize
is for us. but there's no
point thinking about that."
added Purdie.
“We‘ve just to think about
the next round and trying
to win it.”
+
Hereford were due to
watch Nirvana‘s game at
Eynesbury Rovers last Sat»
urday. but the game was
postponed.
“We've done our best in
doing our homework on
them, but it doesn't matter
how much homework you
do. it‘s about how you pre-
pare on the day." said Bea-
dle. who has explained why
goalkeeper Harvey Rivers
signed a dual registration
deal with Swindon Super
marine.
"Harvey wants to play
games and he was going to
play for them 011 Saturday.
but their game was off." he
said.
“We are the priority now,
which Harvey and Swin—
don Supermarine agreed
to. because we‘ve got to
make sure we have cover in
every eventuality.
“Everyone is entitled to
their opinion. but Harvey
wasn‘t dropped, he was
rested. and we need pretty
much two players for every
position. including goal
keeper."
Kick-off for this Satur-
day‘s game is 3pm and you
