Steven Berry, of Sheri— dan Road, Moor Farm, Hereford, was found guilty in his absence by Magistrates -to harass- ment without violence. He failed to turn up to the trial after he first pleaded not guilty to the charge earlier last year. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was sen- tenced last week. Berry was found guilty of being abusive to Terry Treagus at his place of work in April last year. Adrian Jones, prosecut- ing, told city Magistrates that on April 11 at 11.30am Berry went to Tesco in Be- well Street and asked the security guard if he could look after his black bag. Mr Treagus explained that this was not possible and Berry became abusive and aggressive and swore at him. The store manager then banned Berry from the store. Then on April 15 Berry gave a letter to the dairy counter manager to pass on to Mr Treagus, which was addressed to “fat man". Inside was a news- paper cutting which said “We know who you are”. By Rebecca Cain 01432845883 rcafelherefordtimescom Twitter @HTNewsroom Berry then walked past the store and made a ges- ture of a cutting motion across his throat towards Mr Treagus. His record showed he had another offence of harass- ment from last May when he was given a community order for 12 months, with a rehabilitation activity re- quirement Mat ilena Divitantonio, defending, said Berry did not turn up for his trial because he was suffering with ill health and had recently discovered there were shadows on his lungs. The probation service said his previous harass- ment charge was regard— ing his ex-partner, as Berry struggled to come to terms with the break-down in their 18-year relationship. She said they had been working with Berry and since the charge in May, he had not committed any fur- ther offences. Magistrates gave Berry a conditional discharge for 12 months. He was ordered to pay court costs of £620 and a £15 victim surcharge. JUST DOWN FROM MCDONALDS A GENUINE CLOSING SALE NOW ON BRAND NAMES FOR LESS? 27 COMMERCIAL STREET HEREFORD |
