Owners are warned to ensure
the security of horses in winter
HORSE owners have been advised to
make certain that their animals are
secure this New Year.
West Mercia Police say horses are
more likely to escape from enclo-
sures over the winter months as they
look to find grazing.
The force says that all gates to en-
closures shonld be padlocked and
suggests adding a ‘dog tag‘ to horses
so the owner can be traced should
they escape.
Other tips include putting signage
on the enclosure, with contact de-
tails of the owner should the animal
get out, and to consider joining a
horse watch group.
Should owners of escaped horses
or ponies not be contactable. Equine
Emergency Services (EES) are con-
tracted by the police to provide assis-
tance with loose horses.

and won the regional compe-
tition. Then we went forward
to the national and we won
that.
“We were really surprised
and felt really unworthy
They said it was because,
for us, one of the key things
is looking at what the mar-
ket wants because we feel
its important to produce
something that the customer
wants.
“You want them to come
back and you want more and
so it’s not just about produc-
ing as much as you possibly
can, it’s thinking about the
flavour and how it’s pro-
duced. That’s more sustain-
able. You can do something
for a quick sale but it won’t
necessarily produce the best
product.”
