Acclaimed pianist explores
work of sibling composers

THE Lion Ballroom in
Leominster is a beautiful
concert hall. built in 1843 in
the 18th century style as
part of the Lion Hotel com—
plex in Broad Street, which,
after a brief period of clo-
sure, re-opened last August.
and January 24 sees the lat‘
est afternoon concert from
pianist Duncan
Honeybourne.
Duncan will be giving a
lecture recital about music
by the recently discovered
sibling composers. Leo and
Evangeline Livens which
will include The Moorlands
Suite (1918) and Sonata. for
Piano (1914).
Duncan has established a
rich and diverse career as a
pianist and in music educa-
tion. He was born in Dorset
and has won prizes at the
Royal Academy of Music
and the Birmingham
Conservatoire, where he
graduated with First Class
Honours. He made his
debut as soloist at
Symphony Hall.
Birmingham, and the
National Concert Hall,
Dublin, in 1998. His 2-CD
album of British and Irish
piano music was described
by the Gramophone as ‘a set
not to be missed by all 10v-
ers of English music’ and
received 4 stars in the BBC
Music Magazine. His latest
recording of music by
Schubert and Schumann
was recorded in the Lion
Ballroom. and is available
