ROD STEWART TRIBUTE —~ Back
by popular demand Garry Pease
will be Rod Stewart in a tribute
act at The Royal British Legion
Club on February 12 from 8pm.

the date. This will be a ticket only

SERVICES — The following ser-
vices will take place this Sunday
in the Presteigne area. There is a
service of morning prayer at
Lingen at 9.30am and at St
Andrews at 11am and Holy
Communion at Discoed at 6.30pm.
MAYOR’S APPEAL — Would you
be interested in helping St
Michaels Hospice? Next year the
mayor of Presteigne and Norton,
Colin Kirkby is hoping to organ-
ise an Open Gardens Day in May
or June. If anyone is interested in
joining in with plans or would
like more information or register
your interest please call Colin on

BURNS NIGHT — There is a
Burns Night event at The
Arkwright Hall on January 23 at
7.30pm for 8pm. Tickets are £15
which will include a haggis din-
ner, whisky tasting, a quiz and
entry for everyone in the raffle.

FOOD MARKET — Please note
there is no local food market in
January. The next market will
take place on February 6 at The
Memorial Hall.
100 CLUB — The football club
recently held their 100 club draw
for December at The Farmers.
The following winners were
drawn. £100 Margaret Preece, £50
John Wilding, £40 Andrew
Hammersley and £30 David and
Helen Weale. The next draw will
take place at The Royal British
Legion on January 29 at 8pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
YOUTH THEATRE — There is a
new youth theatre in Presteigne
starting up for the new year. The
group will meet at The Assembly
Rooms every Tuesday from 4pm-
6pin. Everyone aged from 11-15
are welcome. The free drama
workshop will be led by Hugh
Pope. The initial idea is to pro-
duce a play to be shown around
Easter time. The choice of play
depends on who gets involved.
QUIZ NIGHT — There is a general
knowledge quiz at The Bowling
Club Social Club on Wednesday
at 7 .30pm for a 8pm start. Space is
limited so booking a table is
advisable. The cost for a table of
four is £2 per person. There will
be prizes for the winners and the
runners up. The bar will be open
and there will be a game of back-
ward bingo too. To book a table

THANK YOU — Thank you to eve-
ryone who performed, helped and
attended the recent benefit gig at
The Assembly Rooms in
December. The gig raised £2300
for Medicins Sans Frontieres
which included some very gener-
ous donations and also the money
from The Workhouse Dog Show.

OWL GOOD NEIGHBOUR
SCHEME — Covering the area and
surrounding parishes and com
mencing in the spring Owl Good
Neighbour scheme is aimed at
offering a service in the commu-
nity to those who may be in need
of support. Volunteers are sought
to help out a few hours a week.
Expenses will be paid. A free
training day will be held on
Tuesday in Orcop Parish Hall,
lunch will be provided. For fur-

Stoke Lacy
STOKE LACY'GARDENING
CLUB — The gardening club usu-
ally meets in Stoke Lacy Village
Hall on the fourth Tuesday of
each month. The cost for each
talk is £3 for members (the annu-
al cost of membership is £6) and
£5 for visitors. It’s a small friend-
ly group of enthusiastic garden—
ers with varying degrees of
knowledge and skills. Anyone
thinking of joining would be
made to feel very welcome. The
next meeting. on January 26, will
feature Ross Barbour. talking
about the Winter Garden in
January. The next meeting, in
February, will be entitled
Growing Vegetables and Getting
the Best for Your Efforts.
THE FRIENDSHIP CLUB — The
Friendship Club meets at Stoke
Lacy Village Hall at 10.30am on
the third Tuesday of the month,
with any changes being adver-
tised in advance. To join you only
have to be 60 years old!
There is a good diary of events.
including outings. planned for
the next 12 months. It‘s only £2 to
join, and then £1.50 per person
per meeting which includes a raf-
fle ticket and refreshments.
Following each meeting a hot
meal can be arranged if notice is
given. On Tuesday The New Year
will start with a Beetle Drive.
Subscriptions for the coming
year will also be due.
BURNS NIGHT SUPPER — There
will be a Burns Night supper in
Stoke Lacy Village Hall on
January 29, at 7.30 for 8pm. There
will be a traditional supper with
a piper in attendance and some
entertainment. Tickets £10. bring
your own drinks.
