for Aspire, a Herefordshire
charity that provide services
and activities for vulnerable
adults (18+) with learning dif-

The event is part of a mod-

event for a local charity
Over 35 guests enjoyed a three-
course Christmas dinner in the
college’s training facility The
Cider Orchard Restaurant. Mu-
sical accompaniment was pro-
vided by Lisa Legg and Sandra
Gale with raffle prizes includ-
ing a selection of hampers do-
nated by local businesses.
CEO of Aspire, Karen Hall
commented: “It is wonderful
that so many people have got
involved in this event today
and that we have raised aware-
ness of the people which we
support; everyone will be so
grateful.
“The students have done a fan-
tastic job organising the event
and I would also like to say
thank you to the waiters, wait-
resses and chefs.”
“This was a really challeng—
ing and rewarding task,” com-
mented student spokesperson
for the group Bea Gittoes.
“The event has run very
smoothly and we are very
happy to support this charity
that do so much great work. We
have raised £400 so far and are

THE Hereford University Cen-
tre, a co-funded project be-
tween Herefordshire & Ludlow
College (HLC) and the Univer-
sity of Worcester, encourages
and promotes higher education
for all, and offers a calendar of
free events for the local com—
munity.
The centre is also a good first
point of call for anyone with
questions and queries about
higher education.
The centre has had its first
public lecture Zombies & Sus-
tainability, by Dr Mikel J. Ko-
ven, and its first A-level history
lecture Jack the Ripper, by Dr
Darren Oldridge.
These events give the audi-
ence a unique opportunity to
experience what it could be
like to study higher education
and to feel inspired by diverse
new subjects.
Joe Nurse, a local student who
attended Dr Koven’s lecture
commented: “I think this lec-
ture has been a fantastic and
valuable opportunity; it was of
great quality and it was free!
“If all of them are this good
then I will keep coming to
them."
On January 28, 2016, the Her-
eford University Centre will
host its first research seminar
LudlowCollege Enquiries@hlcollege.ac.uk
at the Hereford Campus, Witch-
craft, Magic and the Devil in
the Sixteenth and Seventeenth
Centuries, by Dr Darren Old-
ridge.
The paper considers the caus-
es of the witch persecutions of
the sixteenth and seventeenth
centuries, and examines the re-
lationship between witchcraft,
magic and religion in the age
of the Reformation.
The centre has also co-ordinat-
ed a performance of the Greek
comedy Lysistrata which will
be performed on January 21,
2016, by University of Worces-
