JANUARY will be jampacked
with family events following the
launch of Courtyard Family
Saturdays. a programme of week
ly family activities from 10.30am
every Saturday tit The Courtyard.

whether it‘s film. workshops or
perforint-inces.
On Saturday. the film The Big
Knights tl‘) follows the adventures
of Sir Boris, Sir Morris and their
noble pets living in Castle Big in
the far off land of Borovia. With
tickets to the film. audiences can
also join in with a helmeHnaking
workshop before the film. or a 2D
animation workshop with Small
World Animations following the
screening. where children can
create their own short scene mm
The Big Knights. These workshops
are free with film tickets and
have been made possible thanks
to the kind support from
Independent Cinema Office.
On Saturday, January 16. there’s
tive workshop to make a turtle
puppet and create. a show. and the
following Saturday. Lempen
Puppet Theatre Company will
present Journey of Turtle, a bean-
tiful story about following
dreams, told with shadows. table—
top puppets and traditional story-
telling. Children will also be able
to take part in The Courtyard‘s
Turtle Trail and find hidden tur-
tles around the building.
On Saturday. January 30. the
hilarious Ghosthunters (PG) will
be screened. following the adven-
tures of Tom, Betty and Hugo. a

‘ Wye Valley, and now returns
‘ for its 17th year. Since its inau-
gural year. when founders
Daniel Tong and Fiona
McNaught brought a group of
young musicians on a ‘cham-
her music retreat’ to St
Briavels Castle, the organisa-
tion has become an important
year-round cultural presence
in the Wye Valley. In 2015 it
expanded to include a Summer
Residency, inviting young
ensembles to rehearse and per-
form with professional tutors
for a week in July.
The main festival takes place
every January when around 25
leading chamber musicians on Sunday, when teacher

The Ruisi Quartet, who will be quartet-
in-resldence for the festival
take up residence in Treowen
Manor near Monmouth for a '
week. The musicians live and
work together for the duration
of the festival, emerging to
perform concerts in historic
venues locally, including the
Bishop’s Palace in Hereford

Gabriel Fauré and pupil
Maurine Ravel unite for a day
of Parisian masterpieces.
Several strands of program-
ming interweave in this year’s
festival, which highlights

This year, The Ruisi Quartet

once as quartet in residence.
Rosalind Ventris and Yura Lee
join the festival for the first
time and Tim Crawford
returns, having been a member
of the Celan Quartet in 2013
and 2014. Other artists travel
from as far afield as Barcelona,
Berlin, Stockholm, Glasgow
and Cardiff.

Hubbard-A Wild West Pantomime
Adventure.
On the verge of being evicted
from their home, Old Mother
Hubbard, her son Hughie and
Polly, her pretty daughter, are
granted a wish by the Good
Fairy to try and find their long
lost Uncle Oswald. In a blinding
flash of light they are magically
transported to a sun-baked prai-
rie in the Wild, Wild West.
Enter Tex Laramie, a dashing
. young cowboy, along with his
1 sidekick Old Tumbleweed, a dis-
reputable but likeable old-timer.
, Together they set out to unravel

Along the way, among the
many characters they meet are
the villainous Matt Vinyl and
his cronies, the seductive Miss
Lulabelle, the beautiful young

Add rip-roaring Wild West
songs and spectacular dance
. numbers, twirling lassos, the
obligatory saloon swing doors
’. and plenty of really awful jokes,
and the result is a hugely enter-
taining show for all ages.
