The English Sympho- ny Orchestra [ESO], which is based in Worcester, has recently received Arts Council England funding to be- come the resident pro- fessional orchestra in Hereford. Hereford Sixth Form College has collaborat- ed with the orchestra for the last few years and three students from the college will perform alongside the profes- sionals at the orches- tra’s inaugural concert in the Shirehall on Feb- ruary ’7. Principal of the col- lege, Jonathan God- frey, said: “There is no professional orchestra The English Symphony Orchestra which regularly visits Hereford. They are hop- to establish this series of Sunday afternoon concerts which resi— dents can look forward to and subscribe to. “They are running on a Sunday afternoon for people to bring children to if Mr Godfrey said: “It would enhance the cul- tural offering within Hereford if there was to be a regular presence. American orchestras are very much part of their community. The professionals work with schools and colleges. “They also meet the community and they have a sense of own— ership. We are hoping Hereford will feel like that about the ESO.” The concert is on Sun- day, February 7 at 3pm at Hereford’s Shirehall. Buy tickets from www. eso.co.uk.
