THE Herefordshire Football
Association is to consider the
dissolution of its local league
due to the cm rent state of the
game in the county
An email sent out to sides
playing in Herefordshire
football. explains that an
“extraordinary meeting of
the Herefordshire Football
League" (HFL) has been
called to discuss the plans.
The message suggests that a
proposed new Herefordshire
Football Association County
League will take the place of
the HFL, with the HFA taking
on all running costs.
Attendance at the meeting
on February 8 is mandatory.
clubs have been told and
non- attendance will incur a

The message states that Jim
Lambert the chief executive
of the Herefordshire Football
Association will present a
motion “that the dissolution
of ‘the Herefordshire Foot-
ball League‘ will take place
follow ing the conclusion of
the 2015- 2016 season‘ .
“The management com»

Eleven-aside football has
been on a steady decline
for several years. with the
number of sides playing
on Saturdays and Sunday
dropping each season.
There are currently three
divisions on a Saturday
and two on a Sunday — few-
er than half the number
from 20 years ago.
Belmont Wanderers and
Tupsley have already with-
drawn from Division One
this season after struggling
to raise sides.

County League
Both teams were promot-
ed from Division Three last
year.
“A lot of people’s interests
now lie elsewhere — it was
difficult for me to run a
team,” said Dan Pitt, who
managed Belmont, who
also withdrew a Sunday
League side this season.

“They would rather watch
them than play football,
which is sad, but I can un-
derstand why.
“I know Tupsley had a
similar problem with play-
ers losing interest and I’ve
noticed a difference.”
HFL secretary Pete Stead
said the league always try
to help struggling clubs.
“We always try to help
with anyone that is strug-
gling by finding them play-
ers that are not doing any-
thing,” said Steadi. -
“Tupsley signed a lot of
new players week by week
to fulfil their fixtures, but
struggled to commit be-
cause they were losing eve-

“The problem is that kids
start playing football at a
very young age, so when
they are 16 or 17 they have
had enough and there is
