Kate. who lives in the Wye
" Valley with her husband and
‘ two children. will be using her
: expertise on a new BBC quiz
3 show which started this week.
For What It’s Worth, hosted by
Fern Britton. sees three pairs
of contestants answer general
‘, knowledge questions in a bid
j to add antiques to their collec-
j tions while amassing the most
. valuable items.
Kate — who has been involved
‘ in a number of television
shows — can be seen helping
‘ contestants each Thursday
“I‘m involved in a huge range
. of shows and it's very different
. working a studio. Bargain Hunt
is fantastic fun but we are al-
ways out on location," she said.
“We are often battling the ele-
ments but to be in a studio was
. ; complete luxury. It was quite a
change for me but really excit-
’ I: 3 ing and right up my street.”
Antiques are in her blood,
Kate says, her father having
: had an auction house in Her-
' eford when she was young.
Invaluable advice
By Jessica Phillips
Herefordshire antiques expert Kate Bliss with presenter Fern
Britton.
“I grew up in the sale room
with him. He went on to have
his own estate agency business
and he’s now in surveying.
“But I’ve always kept that in-
terest. They [my parents] have
always had old things. So it’s
very much in the blood,” she
added.
“I can remember from a very
early age having a fascination
in craftsmanship and where
things came from and also how
old something could be.
“When I started, and it has
been more than 10 years now,
I thought this is just a phase
but it's just stayed with us and I
think it will always be with us.
“It’s part of our fascination
with history, design and ar-
chitecture and it links with so
'many different aspects. But
there’s also that thrill of mak-
ing money.”
