A HEREFORD boy reg-
istered as blind swam
a quarter of a mile to
raise money for his
friends who are termi~
nally ill.
James Alfie Galvin,
12, took on the chal-
lenge for the “Our Little
Troopers Fight Against
Battens” fundraising
appeal.
When James heard
that of his two school
friends Toby and Corey
Penn, also 12, and their
sister Izzy, ’7, had been
diagnosed with Juve
nile Batten Disease he
launched fundraising
plans. .
James’ mother Lid
Galvin said: “As soon as
we told him, he decided
he would do everything
he could to help create
memories for them be—
fore it‘s too late.
“His uncle Joshua
Toby, Izzy and Corey Penn have all been
diagnosed with Batten Disease.
Galvin manager at
Cotswold BMW swam
alongside him and his
little brother Carter also
swam a few lengths.”
Young people living
With juvenile Batten
Disease are expected
to live until their late
teens or early 203.
The children will lose
their eyesight, will have
frequent seizures, end
up bedridden and will
endlup being tube fed.
Fr1ends and family of
the children have al-
ready donated over
£3,500 via GoFundMe.
The money will be used
to help the family make
as many memories as
possible for the trio and
will also go to the Batten
Disease Family Associa-
tion.
James’s mum said pre—
senters from ITV’s This
Morning show have
also helped by sending
signed photos to be used
in an auction. Other
events in the pipeline
include a magic show
and a nightclub event.

Pub robbed of food stock
MEAT and alcohol were
stolen from a pub in
Ross-on-Wye. _
Burglars broke mto
the Prince of Wales on
Walford Road between
10.10pm on December 28
and 10.40am the follow-
ing morning.
They stole uncooked
meat from the kitchen
and bottles of alcohol
from the bar.
Simon Greene, who
runs The Man of Ross
and The Prince of Wales
with his wife Kathie,
sand the intruders did
not cause much dam-
age and he was able to
quickly have the busi-
ness back up and run-
ning. .

nesses to call 101 and
quote the incident num-
ber, 0207s.
