Taxi app is driving campaign to help keep London moving A PETITION created by taxi app Uber in response to proposals to tighten private hire legulation in London has reached 200,000 signa- tures. Transport for London (TIL) is con- suiting on a series of measures that would affect minicab drivers in the capital. The suggestions — which TIL say could “improve and inform” the regulations that govern London’s private hire trade — include en- forcing an interval of at least five minutes between a booking and the start of a journey to allow drivers to plan an appropriate route. But more than 202,000 people have signed a petition warning TEL that the proposals will make it harder for people “to get a convenient and affordable ride at the tap of a but ton”. The petition added that technolo- gy which makes it “safer and easier to travel around the city should be encouraged not restricted”. Uber’s UK general manager, JO Bertram, said: “We’re delighted so many Londoners feel so passionate- ly about Uber. “Some of these plans, like com- pulsory five minute waits, make no sense at all and would mean an end to the Uber people know and love today. “We hope Transport for London will listen to the hundreds of thou- sands Of people who are now mak- ing their voices heard.
