DRASTIC. government cuts
and an increase in demand on
adult care services are behind
a review into the county’s care
and support charging policy.
Herefordshire Council says
its central government cash
will be all but eliminated from
its current level of £26million
to less than film by 2020.
The authority says that in
2016/17 alone its government
funding will reduce by £9m
which, taking into account
rising adult social care costs,
means savings of nearly £11m
will need to be made.
As a result the council says it
must consider different ways
of delivering services.
The consultation includes six
proposals which include re-
moving joint assessments for
couples, charging for arrang-
ing support for self-funders,
charging for telecare, and
making changes to payments.
Cllr Patricia Morgan, Cabi-
net member for health and
Herefordshire Council is seeking new ways to pay for adult
social care as central government funding is reduced
wellbeing, said: “We are cur-
rently considering increasing
council tax to support rising
adult social care costs; a move
supported by the government,
which acknowledges that cur-
rent adult social care funding
is insufficient to meet demand.
“This will not resolve the
situation and we need to make
additional savings across the
council, which could mean
further changes to services
and increases in council tax.“
The consultation is available
until March 11.
