Floodwater builds up outside the couple’s Tillington
home
Flooding
plagues
a village
A TILLINGTON couple
say recent flash flooding
has once again proved
how urgent action is need-
ed to solve a problem that
has plagued the village for
more than 20 years.
Beryl and Michael White,
who moved to the area two
years ago, say the road
outside their home is of-
ten under water due to
blocked and broken drain
pipes.
It means pedestrians
are unable to access the
route while cars driving
through the flood often
cause water to spray on to
the couple’s property.
Mrs White, 74, said: “At-
tempts have been made
to empty the gullies only
to find that the pipes be-
tween them are blocked
and broken.
“At the moment there is
nowhere for the water to
go and it is virtually im-
possible for pedestrians
to pass. Cars travelling too
fast create waves which
pass into our outbuildings
and the build-up of mud Is
now being splashed on to
newly painted railings"

well as a small gym, has
succumbed to floodwater.
They said other residents
have reported the problem
repeatedly over the last
20 years but, despite vis-
its from council officials,
nothing had been done.
“If we have any rain, half
of the road is flooded all the
time,” added Mrs White.
Herefordshire Council
said Balfour Beatty Living
Places was aware of road
flooding at the location and
had recently visited the
site.
“While the annual budget
for drainage works has al-
ready been allocated for
the current year, this site
has been added to our list
of areas for consideration
for improvement works,”
it read.
“BBLP has dealt with
flooding in the county over
the last week and contin-
ues to support residents
across Herefordshire."
Furniture retailers set to open
new trading store within city
A FURNITURE retailer
will be opening its first

month creating seven jobs.
Oak Furniture Land, the
UK’s largest retailer of sol-
id hardwood furniture, will
create seven new jobs when
it begins trading on Holm—
er Road on January 23.
Jason Davies, Oak Furni-
ture Land‘s Regional Man-
ager said: “The Hereford
store is a major investment
and plays a significant role
in our on-going store open-
ing programme across the
UK, which will see us open-
ing a new store each month
for the next three years.
“We are hoping that the
opening of our store on the
