‘CLEAN for the Queen’ is
the message being sent out
to Herefordshire residents
in the build—up to Her Maj-
esty’s 90th birthday cele—
brations later this year.
Organised litter-picking
will be taking place across
the county from March
with residents and schools
urged to join the biggest
clear up the country has
seen for 60 years.
This will be followed by
the monarch’s birthday
celebrations in June with
street parties, lunches and
evening events across the
county being planned.
Communities are asked to
register their street parties
on Herefordshire Council’s
website so that there is a
central place for individu-

als to discover how to cel-
ebrate.
Lady Darnley, Hereford-
shire’s Lord Lieutenant,
Her Majesty’s representa-
tive for Herefordshire said:
“We are so proud to be part
of this wider celebration.
“So much has happened
in the Queen’s life inter—
nationally, nationally and
locally. We all join together
in wishing Her Majesty a
very happy birthday and
celebrating with our own
local events.”
Plans to hold larger com-
munity events in Leom-
inster and Presteigne are
already underway, with
details of others expected
to be announced nearer the
time.
Community groups can
also raise money for their
chosen charity but there is
no requirement to do so.
The Queen will actually
turn 90 on April 21, but the
official celebrations will be
held over the weekend of
June 10 to 12.
The last time Her Majesty
was in Herefordshire was
in 2012 to celebrate her
Diamond Jubilee and, al-
though she is not attending
an event here this year, the
more royalist sections of
the community will be com-
ing together to celebrate
her big day.

Drunk smashed police car
A DRUNK man shouted
“boom” as he threw a chil-
dren’s bike through the
rear windscreen of a police
car.
Stuart Andrew Mclean,
29, of Little Hereford
Street, Bromyard, admit-
ted causing £2,000 worth
of criminal damage to the
back bumper and wind-
screen of the car when he
appeared before Magis-
trates last week.
Clare Linehan, prosecut-
ing, said that the incident
happened when police
were on patrol in their
marked vehicle in Ledbury
during the early hours of
January 1. _
She said: “Police stopped
to speak to a member of
the public and got out of
their car.
“A male ran towards the
rear of the vehicle and
picked up a children’s
bike before holding it over
his head and throwing it
into the rear of the police
car causing the window to

“As he did it he shouted
‘boom’ and then ran off."
One of the witnesses
named Mclean and, after
police carried out checks,
they went to his property
and arrested him.
In interview, McLean said
he was drunk and didn’t
know what made him do it,
Chris Morgan. mitigat-
ing, said that Mclean apol-
ogised and admitted it was
a stupid thing to do.
“He was outrageously
window
drunk and nobody was
hurt,” Mr Morgan told Her-
eford Magistrates Court.
Chair of magistrates Rog-
er Wild said that it was a
“very expensive moment
of madness" but said that
police had not provided
