l herefordtimes.com + Thursday, January 28. 2016 THE HEREFORD TIMES 21 A sa|e has been agreed for the Treacle Mine in Hereford - one of the few pubs south of the Wye in the city . t.» Hopes are high for pub as sale agreed THERE could be a glimmer of hope for one of the few remaining pubs in south Hereford. Sold signs have gone up outside the Treacle Mine in St Martin’s Street 7 some five months after the pub closed suddenly. Estate agent Andrew Grant handled the sale. The company said contracts have yet to be exchanged and were unable to confirm the identity of the new owners. The closure left South Wye with only three pubs although the reopening of the Saracens Head late last year has pushed that n urn- ber up to four. Jen and Cliff McMahon were the last rl‘i‘eacle Mine landlords , and had been at the pub for five and a half years before deciding to call last orders and take a “v.'ell-desen'ed rest". The Treacle Mine. a free- of—tie public house which was not leased from any one, was once one of three pubs on the roundabout where the A49 and 9.46:? meet, outlix'ing both the Greyhound Dog and the Ship lnn. , Astra merreo Two crashes A CAR C(0J6ft15 a police (er 2‘ e r ‘ » r -. r , ,,r A road CI’JS'J": o. :v r: /- 4 i fix #3st ’/ crm . ye EQUI’QFF ’ ' The roe crashed :rt' Couple’s attack w trauma A HEREFORD couple were attacked after re- turning a dog found wan- dering alone to its owners. Darren Greenwood had been walking his own dog when he came across a wandering Staffy, Her- eford Crown Court heard last week. He took the dog home and made enquiries but discovered it wasn’t reg- istered, Jason Aris, pros- ecuting, said. Along with his partner, Donna, he took it to a friend, Kelly Saunders, who ran a service for lost dogs. She recognised the Staffy and knew where the own- er lived and together they went to an address on Prospect Walk in Tupsley, Hereford, in May, 2014. Sarah Richards, 34, an— swered the door and paid no interest to the visitors until they turned away. Her partner, Tony Den- ham, 36, then came out and became aggressive when taking the dog back as the Greenwoods asked for the return of the lead as it had been a gift. The court was told that Denham swung the lead at Mr Greenwood, whipping him with it. Mr Aris said Denham lat- er retrieved a knife from his house and struck Mr Greenwood before both defendants got into a car. Their vehicle was then in a collision outside their home but they drove away, leaving the Greenwoods and Miss Saunders at the scene. Mr Aris said the couple were stopped by police on Aylestone Hill and, after being arrested, Richards spat at a custody officer. The court heard Denham had 57 offences recorded against him, mostly for dishonesty and motor of- fences while Richards had various matters of vio- lence recorded against her. But the court was told that Denham’s offending had “tailed off” since 2007. The offence on this occasion was not something he had gone looking for ~ the vic— tims had come to his house and he reacted to what he saw happening outside his front door which involved his partner. Mark Thompson, defend- ing Richards, said she ac— knowledged she had anger management problems. Denham had pleaded guilty to one charge of wounding, one of having a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place and one of dangerous driv- mg. Richards pleaded guilty to two counts of common assault. Recorder Graeme Cliff sentenced Denham to two years in prison suspended for two years, 12~months supervision, 12-months drug treatment and a spe- cific activity of 10 days an- ger management. Richards was sentenced to a 12-month community order. 12-month supervi- sion with a specified ac- tivity of 10 days of anger management treatment and 10 days of a think- ing and problem-solving course.
