The Warriors have a large catchment area in the coun- ty and deliver rugby les- sons to numerous schools and clubs in the region. The sessions were part of Aviva Premiership scheme ‘On The Front Foot’, which aims to engage children through rugby with a tour- nament at the end of the five weeks. Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 learned about teamwork and decision-making as well as sport-specific skills such as catching and pass- ing with an emphasis on rugby “I had a fantastic five weeks at St Weonards and the children were a pleas- ure to coach.” said Warri- ors community coach Ben Penfold. “It’s a fantastic school out in rural Herefordshire along with great facilities and I hope some of them have been inspired to join a local rugby club." And parent Rosey Price believes her daughter re ally benefited from the ex- perience. She said: “It’s only a small rural school but they have been lucky enough to re- ceive coaching from a pro- fessional club. I know the children have thoroughly enjoyed their experience.” Hereford leave it too late as unbeaten run is ended HEREFORD fell to their first defeat in three months which has put a serious dent in their Midlands One West promotion hopes An abject display by the Wyesiders for the first hour against Stratford—upon-Av- on ultimately proved costly as Hereford lost 27-10. Stratford opened up an early ten-point lead with a penalty goal and a convert- ed try. The Hereford forwards es- tablished control in the set scrums but too much pos- session was kicked away allowing Stratford to run the ball back into Hereford territory. But the away side did get on the scoresheet when Perry Pudge set up Sean Day for a well~taken try. Day was later sent to the sin~bin following a “minor disagreement" and. from resulting penalty. Stratford scored their second try. MIDLANDS 1 WEST with the conversion put- ting them 17~5 ahead. The home side increased their lead after the break with a well-taken penalty goal. before they added another converted try. This sparked Hereford into action and put a lot of pressure on the Strat» ford defence. With 15 min— utes to go. Fran Jennings broke from a scrum, Dean Powell moved the ball to Tom Ewins, whose pass to Pudge went to ground. Hereford opted to scrum a penalty award inside the Stratford 22. Gareth Jones drove off the back of the scrum and fed Day for the winger to dive over for the second Hereford try. The conversion was missed. but Hereford’s at- tacking play was too lit- tle too late, and they went home pointless. Sean Day, seen here on the ball for Hereford against Kenilworth, scored a try for the Wyesiders against Stratford. But Hereford lost the match 27-10 Fields slide to Khalsa defeat MFL PREMIER DIVISION AN UNDER-STRENGTH Westfields side went down 2-0 to high-flying Sporting Khalsa in the Midland Pre~ mier Division. Manager Sean Edwards was without the suspended Jamie Saunston and James Baldwin for the match, while Aidan Thomas was unwell. But the Hereford-based side still gave a determined display and missed three great chances. The sides went into the break all-square, with Phil Glover and James Febery defending well for West- fields. However, the away side still had a chance to score when Craig Jones’ cross just missed Matt Reeve and Tom Bendall. Jamie Cuss then missed a great chance to put West- fields ahead in the second half when he shot tamely at the Khalsa goalkeeper and that proved costly when Dave Meese headed in after the ball was not cleared. Jones then shot high over the bar after being set up by Cuss before Khalsa went 2-0 up. Marvin Nisbett’s shot was saved by John Hop- kins, but the rebound fell nicely to him and he made no mistake. Edwards brought on Dan- ny Hill in an attempt to snatch a goal back, but the Khalsa defence remained strong. Westfields face Wal- sall Wood this Saturday.
