My name is Dawn Ford l am an artist & a maker of bespoke keepsakes. The idea of the TLC buddy keepsakes came about during a dear friend of mine‘s brave battle with cancer and later after her tragic death. Whilst in St. Michaels' Hospice, my friend and her partner made arrangements to get married. Heartbroken, i wanted to make her something special but with meaning. After much deliberation | used her late mum and dad’s clothes and | used items that to me epitomised her parents; her mum's head scarves, her dad's silk ties. Symbolically her parents were with her that day. Tragically my dear friend passed away and in memory of a beloved mum and wife I made her son, daughter and husband a pillow out of her pyjamas and dressing gown. When i had finished sewing I realised that these were more than pillows, they were intact hugely sentimental, huggable daughter's summer dress with some of the commissions undertaken so far. All were carefully deconstructed, then reconstructed into either a cushion, scarf, or a cloth dog. These precious keepsakes can bring comfort in difficult and sad times. They celebrate the memories inspired by the cherished clothes that you send me. These precious and highly personal keepsakes all have the same innate ability to keep a loved one 'close'.
