holding a knit-in at the chapel in

7.30pm in the Bredwardine and
Brobury Village Hall. Teams of

This is our first fundraiser for
2016. Our committee funds are
very low due to completing the
driveeable access without grant
funding.

HOME-START Herefordshire is
a local charity that supports
vulnerable, fragile and hard to
reach families who are experi-
encing difficult times. The
scheme has been in
Herefordshire for 33 years and
gives support to families
throughout the county.
To become a home-visiting vol-
unteer adults are requested to
attend and complete a course of
preparation which is run at an
accredited level. The trainees
will learn safeguarding, bound-
aries. the toddler and teenage
brain plus many more interest—
ing iii-depth aspects of bring-
ing up a modern family in
today’s world and how new
strategies can be put in place to
help.
Thirteen new volunteers have
just completed the latest course
ran by Home-Start
Herefordshire’s fully qualified
training staff. They are now
eager to help support vulnera-
ble families and become part of
this major service that pro-
vides help and mentors to fami—
lies in crisis throughout the
county
Could you give between two to
three hours a week of your
time to visit a family ‘? If you
would like to join the team of
committed volunteers, the next
course starts on Monday from
9.30am — 2.50pm which will run
every Monday for 10 weeks.

ASSOCIATION — There is to be a
Special General Meeting of the
association on January 27 at 7pm

OWL GOOD NEIGHBOUR
SCHEME — Covering the area and
surrounding parishes and com-
mencing in the spring Owl Good
Neighbour scheme is aimed at
offering a service in the commu-
nity to those who may be in need
of support. Volunteers are sought
to help out a few hours a week.
Expenses will be paid. A free
training day will be held on
Tuesday in Orcop Parish Hall,

FELLOWSHIP — The first meeting
of the new year for the
Herefordshire Health Services
Retirement Fellowship (HHSRF)
will be held on Monday for 2.15pm
start in the St John’s Methodist

This month’s guest speaker is
Gordon Taylor, who will be
returning to present his topic of
Hereford Cathedral in Focus and
as always we are looking forward
to his enlightening presentation
about the changes in the cathe—
dral. We wish all our members the
very best for the New Year espe-
cially, those who are not always
able to attend the regular meet-
ings but, who loyally support our
NHS Fellowship. New members,
who have retired from the NHS
and member’s guests, are always
welcome to come along and join
us at the meetings which are held

NEW TRUSTEE FOR
HEREFORDSHIRE
HEARTSTART — Clive Edwards
has recently joined the Board of
Trustees of Herefordshire
Heartstart as a volunteer trustee.
Herefordshire Heartstart is a
truly local charity/ voluntary
organisation that delivers free
Heartstart how to save a life
courses. Clive moved to
Herefordshire over 40 years ago
and served as a police officer for
over 30 years. He covered the
county, as well as parts of
Worcestershire and Shropshire.
Clive went on to become a trainer
of new officers, before eventually
ending service when he was
responsible for policing at
Ledbury. Clive went on to become
a St Johns Wales first aid instruc-
tor. For many years Clive has also
been a volunteer instructor for
Herefordshire Heartstart. Since
retirement, Clive has worked as a
transport coordinator and driver
for another charity, which has
included health and safety
responsibilities. Clive joins the
Herefordshire Heartstart Board
of Trustees and hopes to help sup-
port the coordinator/ project man-
ager, by doing follow up observa-
tions of new volunteer instruc-
tors, after they have completed
instructor training with the com-
munity training supervisor. Clive
also plans to offer updates on
health and safety matters rele-
vant to the organisation.
