herefordtimescom Thursday, January 28 2016 THE HEREFORD TIMES U‘l (O farmingtimes Obj ectors celebrate as plan for poultry unit Withdrawn PLANS for four large poul- try units to be installed in Clehonger have been with- awn. Phillip Whittal wanted permission to build the units — which would house a total of 212,000 birds — on land at Bowling Green Farm. However, the application was withdrawn by Mr Whittal on Monday. A public meeting which was due to be held on Jan- uary 31 for residents of Al- lensmore and Clehonger, has now been cancelled. Ann Pearson, secretary of Allensmore and Clehonger Action Group (ACAG), said the withdrawal of the planning application had been welcomed by many in the area. She said: “We are all very relieved — this planning ap- plication has caused a lot of anxiety and worry. “We want to enjoy living in this small rural area again, free of the smell and other pollution that broiler units cause.” The ACAG said it was concerned about increased traffic on the B4349 from the site, including HGVs and other vehicles, pollu- tion to rivers, brooks and water courses from spread chicken waste manure and slurry and the negative ef- fects on wildlife and their habitats. There were also concerns about pollution from toxic poultry dust and also about the possible effect on house prices in the area. Mr Whittal declined to comment.
