Woman scarred in alley attack A THERTY-year—old man who , attacked a woman with a cycle lock in a Hereford city centre alleyway has been jailed for four years and eight months. Tim Sapwell, prosecuting, said victim Amber Jones had been badly scarred and it was thought at the time that her eyesight might be affected. Her attacker, Ryan Hendry, of Chester Close, Moorfields, Hereford, admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Mr Sapwell told Worcester Crown Court that the pair met in a city centre pub in September last year afler Henry had been released from a previous prison sentence. They walked off down an alley near Widemarsh Street By Court Reporter 01432 8.45876 news@herefordtimes.com Twitter @HTNewsroom and were sitting on a wall be- fore Hendry left to get a light for his cigarette. Ms Jones felt an impact on the side of her head and there was a sudden gush of blood from her face. She screamed for help and a taxi driver came to her aid. At one stage, she looked up and saw Hendry with the cycle lock in his hand. His last words to her were : “If you go to the police I will kill you. Hendry was arrested a few days later and said in a pre- pared statement that she must have been assaulted by some one else. He claimed that his cycle and lock had been stolen. He was said to have 18 previ ous convictions for 50 offences, including a six-year term for aggravated burglary. His counsel, Jonathan Stan- niland, said he did not want the case deferred because Hen- dry knew he would be receiv- ing another prison term. Judge Richard Rundell said it was a serious attack which had been carried out when Hendry was on licence for a previous offence. He had struck Miss Jones four times.
