Missed
doubles
behind
ace exit
DARTS ace Jim Williams
felt missed doubles proved
costly as he bowed out
of the BDO World Darts
Championship after a grip-
ping second-round match
against Wesley Harms.
Williams, from Shobdon,
was 2-1 and 3-2 up in sets,
but Harms stormed back to
win 4-3.
“It was gutting, but I
missed too many doubles,”
said Williams.
“I went 3-2 up and it was
2-2 in the next set and I had
the darts, but I threw it
away.”
Williams added that he
didn’t feel nervous and the
experience will stand him
in good stead.
“I felt all right and was on
top of my nerves, but I went
for the wrong shot and that
threw me a bit,” he said.
After exchanging the
opening four sets, Harms
went 1-0 up in the first leg
of the fifth before Williams
levelled with another dou-
ble eight.
The match went back in
Harms’ favour in the next
leg, but an excellent 180 by
Williams saw him back on
level terms.
Williams then hit a 140
and the momentum seemed
to be with the 31-year-old
when he checked out with a
64 to go 3-2 up in sets.
But despite going 1-0 up
in the sixth set, Harms
stormed back to go 2-1 up
and he then sealed the win.
