advice to everyone.
For the more vulnerable, such as
the elderly people living alone
and those with reduced mobility

safety check involves representa-
tives from Hereford and

Service calling by at your home to
offer safety advice specific to your
household and personal circum-
stances.
During the visit, they will check
your smoke alarms and install
new ones if needed and will
ensure that you are doing all that
you can to avoid the risk of a fire
in your home. They will also help
to work out an escape plan in the
event of fire.
The Fire and Rescue Service
urges anyone who might be vul-
nerable themselves or who knows
an elderly family member, friend
or neighbour who lives on their
own or has reduced mobility and
who might benefit from a visit to

below and request one on their
behalf.

Teachers
come from
Palestine
for visit
THE Knighton Palestine Links
group welcomed four teachers
from Palestine last weekend.
The teachers have come to the
UK to meet other teachers, visit
local schools and find out more
about education in the UK, as well
as telling teachers and pupils here
about the difficulties faced in
their own country.
The teachers, Ghadeer Mousa al
Khateeb, Sireen Quran, Alaa
Fayid and Adnan Hussein, come
from different parts of Palestine.
When they arrived in Knighton
they joined members of the
Knighton Palestine Links group
for supper at the home of Trevor
and Bev Lloyd.
In October 2015, Bev travelled to
Palestine to help with the olive
harvest at a small village called
Burin near a town called Azzoun.
which is twinned with Knighton.
This was the fifth time she had
helped with the olive harvest but
said: “There were lots of prob-
lems this time with violence from
Some of the members of the Knighton Palestine Links group with
their Palestinian visitors
illegal settlers. One of our
group was injured by a rocks
that was thrown and olive
groves were set alight, destroy-
ing many of them.”
Palestinian head teacher
Adrian Hussein said everyone
they had met during their Visit
had been so kind and welcom-
ing. During their visit to the
UK, he said: “We want to meet
teachers and see how they
teach, tell them what is like to
teach in Palestine and hopefully
arrange for some of the UK
teachers to come to Palestine.”
While in the area, the
Palestinians visited Knighton
Primary, Gladestry primary
and Llanidloes high school.
