Exhibition of peace
posters at library
THE results of an art com-
petition promoting peace
are being displayed in a
town’s library.
The art department at
John Kyrle High School
has linked up with the
Ross-on-Wye Lions Club for
many years for the annual
poster competition.
As an international or
ganisation, the Lions pro-
mote understanding be-
tween people of different
countries.
Art teacher Anna Taylor
said of the contest held for
pupils in year eight: “This
competition gives young
people the chance to ex-
press their own ideas and
express their own thoughts
about the world they see
around them”
The winners were present—
ed with their prizes at Ross
Library by Lions’ president
David Ravenscroft while he
also presented a cheque for
£300 to the art department.
The exhibition continues
at Ross Library.

Lights refund
LEOMINSTER'S Town Council says
the Christmas lights used in last
year’s decorations were of such poor
quality that they will be requesting a
reduction in the bill.
Concern was also expressed about
the ‘unreliability' of the lights as
Leominster Town Council’s finance
committee said it would be asking for
a 50 per cent reduction of the invoice
received. The total bill for the lights
was 217,388.
The festive lights contract has now
come to an end and the committee
agreed to review the way the town
council delivered the lights in the
future — including the possibility of
undertaking the erection of the lights
ianouse
The switch—on event was organised
separately by the Leominster
Christmas Jubilee and the council
thanked the efforts of those involved
in ensuring a ‘suocessful' event.
